That’s pretty interesting. I never thought of that but, i bet it would come in handy when you go to trademark a name that the name is not like anything else in your field.

    Cool post.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, one of the nice things about the brandable domain names is that there is often less of an issue when looking to trademark your name. Generally speaking, people in an industry have similar names. They are all clustered together which makes it difficult to get a trademark that is around the same area, it also makes it difficult to stand out. A brandable domain name like the ones on this site a clearly differentiated from the rest of the pack.

      Thanks again for your comment.

It’s a cool thought but it’s going to take some time for people know what you do by the name if there is no meaning behind it. You’re going to have to spend a lot of time educating the public about your product if they don’t know what you do.

The point about having less trouble trademarking the name has got to be helpful though. It would stand out as well, i guess.

      Thanks for your comment Larry.

Your point that it will take time for people to understand what your business is when you use a brandable domain name is and accurate one. We feel that in conjecture with a good logo, perhaps with a tagline describing your business you’ll bring awareness to your business and products. It will take time to realize what you are. You should blog and use your logo to bring awareness but we feel that the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Because it is a different domain name your company or product will stand out in the crowd and as we said in the past, when the time comes to Trademark the name you will probably have less of a hard time getting approved within your Classification.

We find these bradable domain names are a great get for anyone looking to start a business.

      Thanks for your comment.

Cool, I saw the same car. I thought the same thing that the name is really interested. I think you’re right though, that because so many domain names are taken, companies are being driven to “brandables” because they can’t get anything else.

That said then name is great thought.

Thanks for your comment, we thought the name was cool as well and I guess that’s the point. Maybe they were forced into the name just to get the domain name but the end result is fantastic. Maybe that’s how brandable names started but now they have taken on a life of their own.

Brandable company names and brandable product names are getting more and more popular and in turn it is getting harder and more expensive to get brandable domain names. Anyhow you look at it we love the trend.

Thanks again for your comment and we would love to hear from you if you see another brandable name in action!

There are more and more of these “brandable” names being used. I never really noticed them before but now I’m seeing them everywhere. Not sure if it is selective attention or not but so many companies are going with them.

Not a bad idea for a company name, I’ll sure save some money on my trademark attorney.

    • admin
      July 27, 2012 at 2:32 pm

Thanks for your comment and no joke on your trademark attorney statement. That is just one more amazing aspect of getting brandable domain names and getting a brandable business name is that often, we can’t state always, there is far less trouble with a brandable.

When you get a brandable name, you are kind of like making the name up. These name are unusual and not descriptive of the product or service that you are providing which will make it less “confusingly similar” to other companies, inturn making it easier to trademark.

Once you’ve trademarked the brandabe name, no one can come near you in terms of the name. This may be one more reason that you are seeing more and more companies get brandable names as per your first statement.

Thanks again for comment and let us know if you went with a brandable domain and what it was, we would love to hear it.

Thanks for your comment and the compliment. We want everyone to know how important it is that if you are starting a business you need to get a .com domain name unless you are an education site and can secure a .edu. So many people fell for the pitfall of the new domain extensions and we don’t want anyone to fall for that again.

Thanks for the comment and if you are looking to get a .com domain name check out our main page we have some great ones but even if you don’t buy from us get a .com domain name anyhow!

Crazy, I’m sitting here reading about “brandable” names and brandable company names and I just realized i have a Vivint system at home and didn’t even realize. I never thought it was a wierd name.

I guess these brandables stand out within an industry but blend perfectly into my everyday life. Thanks.

Great company names and great brandable names are everywhere so if you’re starting a company this may just well be the very best way to go. Get a brandable domain name and please let us know which you went for. We would love to put a link to your site so everyone can see how great a brandable can be put to work for them.

That’s so crazy about o.co or overstock.com as they went back to I’m sure. Could you just imagine the traffic O.com was getting, although I’m not sure if you can own a single letter domain, and I’m sure it would be real expensive.

As someone that has run into a lot of trademark issues with a business, i am really quite keen on checking out one of these brandable names. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for your comment and we know, we almost couldn’t believe it here either. We knew that we should believe it because we’ve been preaching the importance of getting a .com domain name and only getting a .com domain name for your business for a long time but it is nice to finally have such a huge case study behind what we have said.

It goes to show you that even huge companies like Over Stock can make such a huge mistake and hopefully everyone that is reading this blog will heed our warnings and only go with a .com domain name.

Can everyone be right? I guess what I mean by that is that half your staff is right because word by definition need a meaning but once you assign a brandable to a company or something then it has meaning and the other half of your staff is also correct.

I hope I didn’t cause more issues in the brandable debut! Thanks for the posting anyway, i found it quite interesting.

      August 29, 2012 at 12:23 pm

Thank your for weighing in our our brandable domain name debate!

We think you’re right, that brandable domains or a brandable words for that matter, are not words because they don’t exactly have a meaning until you assign them one. For a word to be a word or a brandable to be a word they need to have a meaning and inherently brandable domain names don’t have meanings (even if brandable names have roots), they mean nothing until they are assigned a purpose.

We found this an interesting topic and thought we would bring it to you to weigh in. Thanks for your comment!

Thank’s for your comment. We are trying something new with this type of site. We thought that if people are looking to get a domain name for whatever project they are working on, they have a pretty good idea of how much they are willing to pay for their domain, and that’s where we come in.

We are willing to work with people on the price of the domain name they are interested in. We have an good idea of how much the domain is worth and if we are within the same range we want you to get it.

Thanks for your comment and if you are looking to get a domain, just let us know!

I heard someone say that brandable domain names are like pulling letters out of a bag almost like a game of scrabble but I don’t think so. You just can’t have a bunch of letters together, they need to fit and flow nicely.

I love “brandables” as well, thanks for the post.

    • admin
      August 31, 2012 at 2:58 pm

Wow thanks, we could not have said it better ourselves. It’s true there are a lot of people that developing a brandable domain name is like pulling letters out of a scrabble bag but if it were only so easy! As we point out in our other post, that many brandable domain names have roots or are “rooted” with words in either Greek or Latin.

As you so wisely pointed out, pulling out letters does not mean that word or domain will not have a good flow or cadence to them. All of the domain names that a company should get, should be easy on the tongue, easy to say and easy to remember and that is the wonderful world of brandable domain names.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment!

Thank you for your comment. We hope that your blog has a .com domain name. The things about personal blogs is that the person reading the blog will be generally interested in the subject and will remember the name and be able to spell it.

Thanks for your comment and we’d love to check your blog out if you want to send us over the address.

That’s so true. I’m trying to get a loan to get my business off the ground but until I have a name, there’s not a chance. I’m also well away from getting my company into all the aspects of the business I’m planning too and the “brandable” as you call it will work well I think.

    • admin
      September 7, 2012 at 11:06 am

Sounds like you’re the perfect candidate for the amazing expandable brandable domain name and company name for your business. It’s very tricky and I’m not really sure why banks need you to have a company name to get a loan but that, it seams, is just the way it is.

Please let us know if you are interested in any of our brandable domain names, we’d be glad to work with you.

  23. August 20, 2012 at 9:11 am

That’s really interesting about the Greek and Latin roots but do you think that anyone would get what they meant? Do you think it is too high brow for a small business?

    • admin
      September 7, 2012 at 11:16 am

Thanks for your comment. I think quite a few people will know what the Greek or Latin word in your company name will mean. Most importantly you’ll know what it means and you can play on it as well. If you went with the domain name with Latin origin like “Voxxe.com” you’ll know that “Vox” means voice in Latin and you can play it up. Give the company name a tag line like “giving a voice to the needy” or “Voxxe, Bring Out Your Inner Voice.”

There are lot’s and lots of ways you can play with the words and remember if you are doing business online, may foreign people will know what you’re doing with your company name, Latin is the base of many languages.

  24. August 20, 2012 at 10:01 am

These “Brandable” names are just everywhere. I’m not sure if they are all made up, smooshed other words or like your other blog says, have “roots” to them.

I wonder if some of these other “Brandable” names are just people’s last name. We may never know.

    • admin
      September 10, 2012 at 10:07 am

Thanks for your comment and the thought. You are so correct that brandable company names and brandable domain names are everywhere. That’s a funny thought that some of the so called “brandables” may actually be someones last name. We have general consensus around the office that you’re probably right, some of them probably people’s last names.

It’s entirely possible that some are but we also think that most are just branables. We really feel this about any of the brandables you see in the technology field. Thanks for your comment and keep watching out for brandbale domain names and business names!

  25. August 24, 2012 at 11:38 am

      August 27, 2012 at 7:06 am

Thanks for the comment. We love the amazing expandable brandable domain names and thing that any company that is starting out, particularly ones on the technology field or ones that are looking to be modern or different get one. Getting a brandable domain name or brandable company name will, as we mentioned earlier in the post, let you expand your business when the time comes or let you divide off or sell a segment of your company down the line.

Getting a brandable domain name for your company is an excellent way to insulate yourself away from re-branding down the line and all the problems that come with that.

  26. Michael
    August 28, 2012 at 5:25 pm

That’s pretty cool. I just read your other blog about the expandable brandable domain names and I guess as long as you stay within the same business then the domain name or company name will work.

I love the idea of getting a brandable business name.

      September 17, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Thanks for your comment. Your statement about having to keep your company within just one industry is not exactly true. If you are a large consortium of companies a brandable domain name will work well for you as well or even an umbrella company with multiple divisions underneath.

Don’t under estimate the amazing brandable domain name!

  27. Michael
    August 28, 2012 at 5:29 pm

There are just so many companies getting “brandable” domain names or company names. I love your other blog about how brandable domains expand with your company, that’s really interesting and I wouldn’t have thought of that but it’s really true.

Thanks for your comment! We’re not sure why anyone would get anything other then a .com domain name. In this confusing world of domain name extensions the default extension is the .com. I know that lots of companies are getting there own extension and if you have the money and can do that, it’s great but for the rest of us there is NO other extension you should be getting.

Thanks again for the comment and if you’re looking to get a .com domain name just take a look at our home page, we’d love to help you out!

  33. September 24, 2012 at 7:33 pm

I don\’t know, how would anyone know what I do, if I go with one of these, no name names? A bit concerned.

    • admin
      October 16, 2012 at 9:56 am

Thanks for your comment and we understand your concern but, there are many ways around this. The first being that if you get a brandable name with roots or with a Latin or Greek origin some of your perspective customers might get it. Adding a tagline to your name would also be a great way.

Say your Voxent, Vox means “voice” in Latin but if you are “Voxent, Bring Your Inner Voice Out” you’ve got yourself a great company name. Keep it Voxent.com and no one will have any trouble getting to you!

  34. September 24, 2012 at 7:37 pm

We couldn’t agree more. We love your site and wish you the best, we also think you can’t start a business without the .com domain name as well. Spread the word of the .com domain!

    • admin
      October 16, 2012 at 10:05 am

Thanks for your comment and sometimes we fell we’re preaching to choir but, you’ll be surprised how many people may still not be getting the .com domain.

Now, there are a few reasons to get something other then a .com, if you’re a college or school related it’s perfectly fine to get an .edu, a charity can get a .org and well if you’re looking to “hedge your bets” as it were and get the corresponding .net or .org for your existing .com that’s fine.

Thanks again for your comment and please let us know if you have any interest in getting a domain name on our site, we’d be more then happy to help you.

  35. September 25, 2012 at 12:38 pm

Cool, it\’s kind of like that old TV show Smoosh where you put all these words together to make a new word.

I really like it though, name and car.

    • admin
      October 16, 2012 at 10:09 am

That’s cute, we love your reference and we hadn’t thought about that game show for years and now that we did, we think you’re totally right! The concept is great and obviously those words are interesting enough that they based a show on it, one could base a company on it as well.

Thanks for your comment and just remember that, that’s just one way to make a brandable domain name and you have to pick one that works best for you and your company.

To make it short you can just tell everyone that a brandable domain name is whatever you want it to be. It can be a word, a car, a desk, a software company, a service, anything you want it to be but I think that’s the point of this article! Thanks for the article, cute.

    • September 25, 2012 at 12:43 pm

I think I meant to put this on your other page. is a brandable domain name a word Sorry but their both great articles.

Well thank you for your comment and I really glad that you got the point of the article that a brandable domain can be whatever you want it to be. If you are looking for a business name start with getting a brandable domain name.

      Thanks again for your comment.

  37. September 26, 2012 at 7:33 pm

Wow, that’s pretty cool. You can stake out our own word and make it your own and build something cool. It reminds me of real estate or land.

    • admin
      October 25, 2012 at 4:48 pm

That’s exactly what we think. We think brandable domain names are very similar to real estate and waterfront property at that, there is a finite number of available ones. Now if you’re thinking like real estate, then location, location, location is now size, cadence and extension. The domain extension is always going to have to be a .com and the size should be under 12 letters for all domain names but for brandable domain names you should be looking under 8 letters.

So think about real estate when you’re looking at brandable domain names and when you see a good one, you should buy it because like a home, if you think it’s nice, others do as well and they’ll buy it before you!

That’s really cool. I guess all of my high school Latin is going to come in handy; and I thought I was just preparing for collage! Neat article though.

Thanks for your comment and remember there is no such thing as useless learning and while yes learning Greek or Latin will help with your SAT’s and get you into a better college or university, you’ll be surprised how it will help you in the rest of your life. There is quite a few members of our team that have either studied Latin or grew up speaking Greek and now find themselves coming up with amazing company names.

See how many of our domains names have Greek or Latin origins on our main page!

I think that there is a great future for brandable domain names. As we saw from this article and I will look for more, that brandable domain names are climbing in price. They are just so versicle and interesting and I am just seeing them more and more, both on the road in the stores and even at home.

Thanks for your comment and get a brandable domain!

Twing’s got some great names but not sure if it’s worth 11K. I think I have a few great domain names that are just as good.

    • admin
      November 6, 2012 at 10:14 am

Yea, Twing is a great name but not sure about the 11K either but, a name is as valuable as the market will bear and if someone is willing to pay for it then that’s how much it is worth. Twing does have a lot going for it. It’s only five letters, so it’s short and powerful, it’s a brandable so it’s expandable and you can do just about anything with it.

Twing also has a great sound to it, it’s easily remembered and fun and interesting. Now that we’re talking about the virtues of Twink the better and better it’s sounding and maybe it is worth the 11k.

Thanks for your comment and we think we have some great brandable domain names that are worth 11K as well, check them out.

That’s crazy, that’s so much money. I know the name is good and all but not that good, what do you think it is that’s driving up the price?

    • admin
      December 7, 2012 at 3:54 pm

We’ll as someone that loves brandable domain names, I can tell you that I love this name. Whether or not it’s worth 11K well as the business man that I am, I’ll tell you the value of anything, be it a car, stereo, TV or domain name is what it is worth to another person. The value of something is only as high as the market will bear so if someone is willing to pay that amount, then there it is, that’s how much it’s worth.

That said, the owners of this website haven’t done anything with it yet so, I’m not really sure what is going on with it. I can say that a surprising number of websites get sold to companies that never do anything with them, so we’ll have to see.

Thanks for the comment and we’ll keep you posted on the site, if anything ever becomes of it!

I just posted on your other post about how expensive the name sold for but these seem more in line for what I thought those names would go for.

      December 9, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Thanks for your comment. Remember, a domain name is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Twing.com must have been worth a lot because that’s what they payed.
I must say, our researchers here at Get Domainer do like the domain name for a few reasons:
      1) we love a good brandable name and that’s exactly what this domain is. The name has no “true” meaning that we can figure and could be made into just about anything.
      2) it’s short. This domain name is only five letters that’s a great number.
      3) the domain name is easy to remember, who could forget twing?
We thing this name should be worth a good amount of money. We’ll keep an eye on it to see what is done, so we can figure the company that bought it. Thanks for your comment.

Cool post, you can do just about anything with them.

      December 12, 2012 at 7:45 pm

Thanks for your comment. Yes you’re exactly right, you can do just about anything with a brandable domain name. Funny that you say that, because we recently had a customer who said that they were starting a business and they are looking “to grow into the name” (brandable domain name) that they bought.

We couldn’t agree more. A brandable domain name, as the title of the blog states, is expandable. You can use a brandable name to start your company, and as you grow and build expand and add segments of your company on and literally “grow into your name.”

What a great idea, not being “nailed down” or constricted by your company name… Let’s just say, that’s why the International House of Pancakes changed its name to IHop!!

Just saw one on the road. Cool name, cool car might just have to get one.

      November 30, 2012 at 9:43 am

Thanks for your comment. We couldn’t agree with you more, the car is supper cool and we think that’s why the naming experts at the car company wanted a really cool and forward sounding name to go with the car. Our in-house naming experts are unsure if they know going in that they wanted a brandable name or they just unknowingly went into it. We’re not even really sure if they know that they have a brandable product name or not.

Either way we feel the name is really forward, really creative and fits perfectly for the car. We’re really looking forward to seeing more of these cars on road and more companies with brandable domain names!

      November 30, 2012 at 9:18 am

Thanks for your comment. You sound like you’re a perfect candidate for a brandable business name and you’re a perfect example of why our researchers feel that a brandable name is expandable. Because these are not “real” words or words with partial meaning they expand and contract almost accordion like to fit your needs.

We hear from people like you every day saying that they need to get their business started, but not in its entirety and they don’t want a limiting name and these brandables are just perfect for that!

Thanks for your comment and we hope we can help you secure one of these great names.

I guess some of these brandables do have meaning.

    • admin
      December 13, 2012 at 7:53 am

Thanks for your comment and yes, some of these brandable domain names do have a “meaning” but they are not too specific and limiting. Like the example of “GyGeo” where “Geo” is Latin for Earth, you can do just about anything with that. You could use earth as a reference that your “earth friendly” or maybe you actually do something in the earth, like garden or construction.

While yes some of the brandable domain names do have meaning, they are not limited to or so specific that they are limited by that meaning! Thanks for the great comment.

      January 18, 2013 at 10:54 am

Well thanks for the comment. We’ve been working with domain names for quite a while but some of our staff never really, truly knew what a domain name is or how the internet works, so we thought we’d break it down for them. Then we thought if our staff didn’t know what a domain name was or how they worked surely people coming to the site didn’t know either.

We hope the article helped and we hope that you found it our metaphor of a domain name being like a street address. After some of our staff read the article they had a much better understanding and had some interesting points of their own, one being that you can have the same street name and number in different cities but the internet is global so there is a lot more “houses” and all of them need an individual address, so it’s much more complicated.

      Thanks again for the comment!

So what happens after we make an offer on your site?

    • admin
      November 30, 2012 at 8:53 am

Great question! Ok so basically after you fill out the info on our Make an Offer page, including your name, email where we can respond to you, the brandable domain name that you are interested in bidding on and your best offer on that domain name. There is also a message box where you can write us a note or have any pertinent information you would like to provide us.

From there, we get an email with all of that information and we’ll discuss the offer internally. We’ll get back to you in a reasonable amount of time saying that we’ve accepted your offer or a counter offer. You can get back to us with your counter offer at that point as we settle on a final price.

That is really all that happens after you make an offer. Please let me know if you would like to make an offer on a brandable domain name on our site.

I guess I better start paying more attention to what some of these names mean.

    • admin
      February 8, 2013 at 11:58 am

Yes and no. While yes some of these great brandable domain names have some roots and do have some “meaning” to them, and we think they would work great in the industry they are based in, they are just cool and can stand alone. Like “vox” is Latin for voice, that domain name can be just about anything, music, pharmaceutical, political whatever.

Just because they have some meaning, does not necessarily mean that anyone needs to know what that is exactly. Thanks for your comment and please let us know if we can help you get a domain name for your business.

It’s not selective attention as you said, these brandable domain names are everywhere now!

    • admin
      November 30, 2012 at 8:18 am

Thanks for your comment and we think it’s a little bit of both. Our experts here at Get Domainer have found that while people have been using these brandable domain names for quite some time, they are gaining acceptance and becoming really popular.

Recently we talked to one company that have been using a brandable domain name and we asked them why and what got them to start using it. The business owner said that he broke off from the business he was at and he couldn’t use his old business name because it was still in business. He also signed a clause that he couldn’t use a similar sounding name and that was the trouble. Every time he came up with a new business name, his old company said it was too close to his original so over time he caught onto the brandable domain name and business name idea.

He stated that while it took a bit more time to get people to recognize who he is and what he does, he couldn’t be happier. He had no trouble Trademarking his name and he has even expanded into a similar field and the brandable name expanded with him.

Thanks for you comment and let us know if you see some great brandable domain names out there, we’d love to hear them.

Interesting concept, never would have thought of that.

Beautiful. Company names have great meaning when the word itself has great meaning!

    • admin
      November 13, 2012 at 12:43 pm

Thanks, we really love the brandable domain names that “have” meaning. We put have in quotes only because some have meaning in the form of roots. Some of the brandable domain names in our catalog have the words “Geo” or Earth in Greek and “Vox” or Latin for voice and there are many other great examples.

There are more and please we would love if you tell us if you can find more, kind of brandable domain name scavenger hunt. Thanks for your comment and we look forward to seeing your list of root names!

So crazy, just heard about Conan O’Brian and the trouble he had with the .xxx site! Get the .com domain name all the way.

    • admin
      January 25, 2013 at 11:12 am

Exactly, that’s why you should only get a .com domain name for your business. You never know what’s going to happen if a country, state or even an internet provider plans or accidentally blocks other domain extension. If any one of these block the .com’s there would be a huge story and basically it could never happen.

Thanks for your comment and we’re always pleased to love brandable domain name lovers! We do love brandable domain names because they make great business names, car names and whatever you want to do with them. They’re really evocative and interesting and it really makes you want to know more about what the company is and what it does and that’s really why we love them.

The fact that a good brandable domain name can earn your company free adverting is one of the great reasons we love brandable domain names.

We couldn’t agree with you more. Our research has showed that the longer a domain name the more the probability for someone to misspell it in the browser. As we said above, if someone misspells your company name they may be going to your competitor and that is awful for business. Thanks for your comment and please let us know if you have any questions about the length or your domain name.

    • admin
      November 29, 2012 at 11:45 am

As far as we’re concerned, no there is no other domain then the .com domain name. Everywhere you go in the world from Asia to Europe, everyone uses the .com. Now you see billboards and signs all over the place with this or that domain name and they don’t even bother to put the domain name extension on the sign because we all just assume that it’s .com.

The thinking is that the .com is just like the http:// no one puts it in anymore the address anymore or adds it to a billboard or sign because everyone knows it’s there.

      Thanks for your comment.
